Profiles, passcode and Face ID
Keep separate finances in up to three profiles, each with its own passcode and Face ID, and an automatic lock.
Profiles
Each profile is a separate set of finances with its own accounts, transactions, bills, budgets, goals and settings. Nothing is shared between profiles.
- You can have up to 3 profiles on an iPhone.
- Names can be up to 24 characters, and each must be different.
- Each profile has an icon and a colour, so you can tell them apart at a glance.
To add one, go to More → Switch profile and tap the New tile on the Who's this? screen. The tile is there while you have fewer than three.
Switching profiles
Go to More → Switch profile. The Who's this? screen lists your profiles, with a lock on any that have a passcode. Tap one to open it.
When you open Trinance, it goes to the unlock screen of the profile you used last if it has a passcode. Otherwise you'll see the profile list.
Passcode
A passcode keeps others out of a profile. It's also how Trinance confirms it's you before linking a bank. Passcodes are 4 or 6 digits.
Turn on a passcode
- Go to More → Edit.
- Under Security, turn on Passcode.
- Choose 4 digits or 6 digits, enter a passcode, then enter it again.
- Tap Save. Changes to the profile only take effect when you save.
Change or turn off the passcode
- Change: in More → Edit, tap Change passcode, enter the current one, then choose a new one.
- Turn off: turn off the Passcode switch and enter the passcode to confirm. This also turns off Face ID.
4-digit passcodes also work in Trinance for Windows. A profile with a 6-digit passcode opens on Windows without a PIN, so use 4 digits if you move profiles between the two. See Moving from Windows.
Face ID
Once a profile has a passcode, Use Face ID appears under Security in More → Edit (or Touch ID on iPhones that have it). With it on, Face ID starts by itself on the unlock screen, and the passcode is always there as a backup.
If the switch is greyed out, set up Face ID in your iPhone's Settings first.
Automatic lock
A profile with a passcode locks when you leave Trinance for 30 seconds or more. When you come back, you'll need Face ID or the passcode. A quick switch to another app and straight back won't lock it.
- To lock right away, tap More → Lock now.
- Trinance doesn't lock while you're in the middle of an App Store purchase or signing in to your bank.
- Profiles without a passcode never lock.
Wrong passcode
After a wrong passcode you'll see how many tries are left. After 5 wrong tries in a row, Trinance asks you to wait 30 seconds before trying again. The wait doubles each time, up to 5 minutes. You're never locked out for good, and closing the app doesn't reset the wait.
If you forget your passcode
Your passcode is checked only on your iPhone, so there's no way to reset it and we can't recover it for you. Deleting a protected profile also needs its passcode.
The only way to start over is to delete Trinance from your iPhone and install it again, which erases every profile on it. Your Trinance account and plan aren't affected; just sign in again. So choose a passcode you'll remember.
Edit or delete a profile
More → Edit changes the name, icon, colour and security. To delete a profile, see Deleting a profile.
