Moving from Windows
Bring your profiles from Trinance for Windows to your iPhone with a .halcyon file.
If you use Trinance for Windows, you can bring your profiles to your iPhone: accounts, transactions, bills, budgets, goals, categories and settings. It's a one-time copy. After that, each device keeps its own data.
1. Export on your PC
In Trinance for Windows, open Settings → Your data → Export to a file and save the file. It ends in .halcyon and holds every profile on your PC.
If you don't see Export to a file, your copy of Trinance for Windows doesn't have it yet. Trinance for Windows updates itself; you can also choose Check for updates in Settings → About & updates.
2. Send the file to your iPhone
Use whatever's easiest: AirDrop, email it to yourself, or save it to iCloud Drive and open it in the Files app.
3. Import it in Trinance
Pick the file from any of these:
- Import from Trinance on your PC on the welcome screen, the first time you open Trinance.
- Import from PC on the profile list (More → Switch profile).
- More → Settings → Import another profile from PC.
Trinance tells you which profiles it added. Open them from the profile list. Tapping a .halcyon file in Files, Mail or AirDrop and opening it with Trinance imports it straight away too.
Good to know
- Three profiles at most. Trinance imports as many as fit. Delete a profile first if you need room.
- Names: if a profile with the same name already exists, the new one gets a number, such as Personal 2.
- PINs come across. A profile's 4-digit PIN from Windows becomes its passcode on iPhone. Turn on Face ID afterwards in More → Edit.
- Your Trinance account isn't in the file. Sign in again on iPhone in More → Trinance account. Your plan and linked banks follow your account.
- Keep the file safe, then delete it. A
.halcyonfile is a full copy of your finances and isn't password protected. - Files up to 256 MB can be imported. If Trinance says That file isn't a Trinance backup, make sure you picked the
.halcyonfile, not a JSON export or.dbbackup.
From iPhone to Windows
More → Settings → Back up this profile (.db) makes a complete copy of a profile that Trinance for Windows can open. See Backups and export. Use a 4-digit passcode if you want it to stay protected on Windows: 6-digit passcodes don't carry over.
